For many years the parish has played a major role in the development and growth of the Catholic Faith in Northwestern Ontario. The first Church, at the corner of Red River Road and Algoma Street, was dedicated under the patronage of St. Andrew in 1875. Its first parish priest was Fr. Richard Baxter, S.J. In 1881 a new Church had to be built to.. The congregation traces its history back to 1869 when Presbyterian services were first held in Fort William, a Hudson Bay fort on the banks of the Kaministiquia River. 1913 Old St. Andrew's moves on rollers. Old St. Andrew's Presbyterian makes way for new building. In 1889, the first St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was built and remained.
